Community Recognition Statement
Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields) — When the Salvos come knocking, it's for their annual fundraiser – the Red Shield Appeal.
This year there won't be any knock at the door due to the COVID‑19 pandemic, but the Salvos needs support now more than ever.
The Salvos' Digital Doorknock aims to raise much-needed funds so the Salvos can continue their good work.
Since the onset of COVID-19, demand for services at the Salvos in Macquarie Fields has tripled.
Mass job losses and reduced hours of work have hit households hard.
Those who were doing it tough prior to the pandemic are now facing extreme hardship, while others are lining up for unemployment benefits for the first time in their lives.
Demand for discounted groceries, food vouchers and bills assistance have all risen.
Macarthur-East Salvos hopes to raise around $9000 this year, with funds to go directly to helping the local community. It is no mean feat. But I'm certain our community will do all they can to help others during these difficult times.
I commend the Mac Fields Salvos team and their volunteers for continuing their great work in our community.
