Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields—Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Minister for Building, and Minister for Corrections)—One of the ways the former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama found calm in the chaos during Covid-19 lockdowns was to knit. "Something in that tiny and precise motion on repeat, the gentle rhythm of those clicking needles, moved my brain in a new direction," she writes in her book The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times.
Knitters around the world know too well the meditative power of knit one, purl one. So too the Ingleburn Knitting Group, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in July. Over the years, the group has grown from 10 people to around 50 members and created items for premature babies, our local hospitals, women's refuge centres and dementia patients. Importantly, the group has brought people together to create, connect and collaborate.
I've visited the group on several occasions at the Greg Percival Community Centre and always enjoy their companionship. Not only do they love to knit, but they enjoy sharing their passion with others. I congratulate Ingleburn Knitting Group on its fantastic milestone.
I trust that there are many more years – and knitted creations – to follow.
