That the Legislative Council amendments be agreed to.

I make a couple of points regarding the Government's support of the amendments. The Government will accept the Legislative Council amendments to retain references to the Loose-fill Asbestos Insulation Register in various pieces of legislation. But I reiterate that the loose-fill asbestos program has reached its natural end of life. Since the scheme was introduced in 2015, 71,214 homes have been tested for loose-fill asbestos. Of those, 159 properties containing loose-fill asbestos have been identified and added to the public register. All but two of the identified properties have chosen to participate in the program, and no new properties have been identified as eligible for the program since 2024. It is evident that the program has run its course, but the Government does not oppose keeping a register and therefore accepts the amendments. I thank my staff, including Alicia Sylvester, my director of policy, and Jonathan Stanbury, my policy adviser. They have both done an excellent job in managing the legislation. They have worked with stakeholders to ensure that we produce a piece of legislation that helps people in New South Wales. I commend the bill to the House.

Mr TIM JAMES ( Willoughby ) ( 14:34 ): I rise on behalf of the Opposition on the Fair Trading and Building Legislation Amendment Bill 2026 to address the message of the Legislative Council and the three amendments that were passed by our friends in the other place, all of which we support. The amendments go to the matter of loose-fill asbestos insulation. I do not intend to restate that which I have put on record but, in our view, this is a matter of significance and public interest. It is very worthy of further resourcing and responsibility, hence we are pleased to support the amendments.
