Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields—Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Minister for Building, and Minister for Corrections) (18:43): It gives me great personal delight to recognise the enormous contributions of my immediate predecessor as the member for Macquarie Fields, Dr Andrew McDonald, as he retires from medicine. He led a distinguished career that started with NSW Health in 1973, with 36 of those years served in the local Campbelltown community. In addition to practising medicine, Andrew also taught at Western Sydney University and UNSW, teaching the next generation of doctors to serve our local communities across New South Wales. Those who know Andrew, including many in this Parliament, hold him in the highest personal and professional regard. Instant adjectives come to mind—decent, honest, respected, supportive, socially minded, generous, a passionate paediatrician and many more superlatives. I feel very privileged to follow Andrew as the member for Macquarie Fields. He has set an example for me to follow—how best to serve our local community, and how best to behave and act as a member of Parliament. I feel very lucky to know Andrew and to count Andrew as a friend and a mentor. I wish him all the best in the next stage of his life, and no doubt he will continue to make great contributions to our local community.
