Community Recognition Statement
Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields): — Homegrown charity, 24-Hour Fight Against Macarthur, has created the 'Big Blue Cancer Walk' in lieu of its annual weekend walkathon at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in October.
This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, residents are encouraged to wear blue and walk, knit, meditate or simply donate to raise vital funds in support of local cancer therapy services.
Every dollar raised will go towards the Macarthur Therapy Centre, Oncology Ward and Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit at Campbelltown Hospital and Palliative Care Unit and associated outreach service at Camden Hospital.
Funds will assist in the treatment, care and comfort of children and adults dealing with cancer in our community.
I would like to acknowledge Chairperson Warren Morrison for his commitment to continuing the late Fred Borg OAM's legacy to ensure ongoing funding for local cancer patients and local health services.
The 24-Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur has been supporting Macarthur for 17 years and raised $4.8 million since 2005.
This year's goal is to raise $90,000 and return bigger and better in 2022. As a proud supporter of this cause, I have every confidence it will do just that.
