Community Recognition Statement
Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields): Empowering young people through practical skills development and learning by doing is the Scout method embraced by 1st St Andrews Scout Group.
The group's 22 children, three leaders and volunteers are part of scouting's global movement of more than 52 million members.
It was a pleasure to visit 1st St Andrews Scout Group, who were delighted to connect face-to-face again after meetings and activities moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 1st St Andrews Scout Group's community involvement spans over 40 years. The group participates in various camps and competitions, with awards displayed at its meeting hall in Raby.
The group regularly participates in community events, such as Campbelltown citizenship ceremonies, the Fisher's Ghost parade, ANZAC Day and Clean Up Australia Day. The 1st St Andrews Scout Group gives young people an opportunity to explore the great outdoors and develop skills that foster independent, responsible and resilient adults.
The world's largest provider of non-formal education, the Scouts movement is one that encourages young people to be prepared for anything. I commend 1st St Andrews Scout Group on its contributions to our community.
