The upgrade of the 136 year old Macquarie Fields Station is moving closer, with the community invited to have their say on the plans that improve accessibility along with sporting a fresh new look for the precinct.
Transport for NSW is now seeking community feedback on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the proposed upgrade. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the project, which aims to enhance accessibility and amenity, and overall experience of the station for our community.
The project will include the installation of two new lifts and a new passenger footbridge, as well as other facilities such as a family accessible toilet and improved security.
The station will also be modernised with a new accessible entry forecourt, improved canopy coverage, accessible parking and landscaping.
The release of the REF follows early engagement with targeted stakeholders in the Macquarie Fields community to gain valuable input and help inform planning and design of the station upgrade. This strongly reflects our commitment to addressing community concerns and improving the project to better serve the needs of the community and our passengers.
The upgrade is being funded by the Minns Labor Government’s $800 million Safe Accessible Transport program.
The REF for the Macquarie Fields Upgrade is on display from now until 18 September 2024. The community is invited to submit their feedback on the project and the REF.
At the end of the REF display period, Transport for NSW will collate and consider the submissions received.
A submissions report with a summary of the community feedback received and responses will be published on the project website.
Subject to approvals, work on site is expected to begin in late 2024.
Feedback can be submitted through the website, via email [email protected] or the Project Infoline on 1800 684 490. More information on the Safe Accessible Transport program can be found at www.transport.nsw.gov.au/safe-accessible-transport

Quotes attributable to Transport Minister Jo Haylen MP:
“In 2024, it’s not acceptable that a person in a wheelchair or a parent with a pram can’t easily access a station in NSW.
“We committed to upgrading train stations to make them more accessible, safe and secure for the people who need them the most, and that is what we are delivering.
“Transport hubs should be safe and welcoming places for everyone. That’s why the NSW Government is committing $800 million to the new Safe Accessible Transport Program, to make sure our public transport is as safe and inclusive as possible.”
Quotes attributable to the Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong MP:
“We have a very diverse community, with many young families and carers with prams, people with disabilities, the elderly, women and girls – to whom this station upgrade is going to mean a world of difference.
“We waited a long time for this, with the previous Government overlooking our community so they could look after their own electorates. Finally key design work is coming together and we’re a step closer to a fully accessible station.”
