MP launches ‘Stop the Squeeze’ survey to combat soulless high-rise suburbs

19 February 2018

Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong MP is calling on his constituents to have their say on high-rise and housing development in their suburbs through an electorate-wide survey being launched today.

The survey will be sent to every household in the Macquarie Fields electorate – which extends from the northern section of Leumeah to Edmondson Park, Glenfield and parts of Casula – as part of the most comprehensive consultation undertaken on attitudes towards what many residents are already describing as ‘overdevelopment’.

“I want to know exactly how my constituents feel about development in their area, what they fear about overdevelopment and how important it is to them to save our green open spaces and maintain our suburban charm,” Mr Chanthivong said.

“As a result, I have launched a survey to hear people’s views on overdevelopment in the local area and invite feedback from all members of the community.”

The ‘Stop the Squeeze’ survey closely follows the release of the Liberal Government’s Precinct Plans that will slug areas such as Minto, Macquarie Fields and Ingleburn with high-rise monstrosities – forever destroying the suburban character that makes our area so special.

“Our local suburbs should reflect what people in our community value most, including the characteristics we have come to know and love,” Mr Chanthivong said.

“I refuse to allow the Liberal Government to turn our local area into a dumping zone for more homes, more high-rises and more urban splatter at the expense of all-else. Nor will we pander to the Liberal Government’s love-affair with greedy developers. It’s time to Stop the Squeeze.”
