Anne Stanley, Federal Member for Werriwa, and Anoulack Chanthivong, State Member for Macquarie Fields, have both hit out at proposed amendments to the Frasers Edmondson Park South Concept Plan.
For the second time in 12 months, there is a proposal to reduce the number of car parking spaces required for new units.
Coupled with the continued wait for the construction of more parking at Edmondson Park station, these changes will mean more cars looking for less parking.
“I am disappointed that these changes have even been considered," Anne Stanley said.
“The only people who will benefit from these changes are the developers.
“Edmondson Park residents are still waiting for the commuter spaces promised during the last NSW State election campaign – due this month – which still haven’t been delivered..
"Worryingly, it seems that the only options to provide feedback are by email or snail mail. This is not acceptable, and there is only one week until submissions close.”
Mr Chanthivong said the proposed changes were once again an appalling example of poor planning and putting profits before people.
“Any attempt to reduce car parking provisions for Edmondson Park residents beggars belief given the suburb’s long-standing and woeful commuter car parking crisis.
“Let’s be clear. The Liberal Government has consistently short-changed Edmondson Park residents. Whether it is more commuter car parking, a Service NSW centre or a new school, the Liberal Government has failed to deliver basic infrastructure and services for one of Sydney’s fastest growing suburbs.
“I will continue to fight for Edmondson Park residents’ fair share and a fair go. People must be at the heart of planning decisions, not developers’ pockets.”
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment determines the amendments. Submissions close on 13 May.
Residents are encouraged to email a submission to [email protected]
