Federal Member for Werriwa, Anne Stanley MP, and State Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong MP, have slammed the NSW Liberal Government for failing to deliver on its much-anticipated promise to start construction this year on 700 new car parking spaces at Edmondson Park Station.
In January, Melanie Gibbons MP made a public announcement alongside Premier Gladys Berejiklian at Edmondson Park Station boasting that construction of the 700 new car spaces would start this year. Yet the NSW Budget handed down this week tells a very different story, with a measly $212,000 allocated in 2019-2020 for the ‘planning’ of the new car park.
This means desperate commuters could be waiting up to four years to see the extra car spaces delivered. Local commuters are angry and frustrated, particularly as the crisis deepens and becomes more protracted. In complete desperation, some commuters have resorted to parking illegally and paying a fine in order to travel to work.
Local commuters are shocked by the Liberals’ inaction and complete disregard for the area, despite being aware of the car parking crisis for years.
State and Federal MPs Anoulack Chanthivong and Anne Stanley have long advocated for an urgent upgrade of the Edmondson Park commuter carpark, launching petitions calling for immediate action.
The MPs have consistently called for an urgent need to restore fairness for the people of south west Sydney and commit to long overdue infrastructure.
Quotes from Anne Stanley MP
“Yet again, the Liberal Government has failed to prioritise the infrastructure that is needed in our growing suburbs.
“The NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian promised 1100 car spaces at Edmondson Park by 2020. Now, we find out there is no money for construction meaning that the parking crisis is set to continue for years to come.
“You simply can’t trust the Liberals to deliver for the people of south west Sydney.”
Quotes from Anoulack Chanthivong MP
“Local commuters have suffered for years because of inaction by this Liberal Government.
“Now, the Liberal Government has failed to keep its promise as well. The Budget has delivered next to nothing for the promised and desperately-needed car park at Edmondson Park Station.
“The reality is that under this Liberal Government the commuter car parking crisis at Edmondson Park will continue unabated for the next four years. This is completely unacceptable and I will be demanding answers from the Minister and the Premier.
“The Liberals have consistently failed to deliver much-needed infrastructure to support our growing community. Where’s our fair share?”
