Macquarie Fields MP Anoulack Chanthivong has penned a letter to Santa highlighting the major issues affecting the Macquarie Fields electorate and calling for our community’s fair share.
The Christmas-Wish List has become an annual tradition since Mr Chanthivong was first elected in 2015.
“Sadly, there is greater chance of Santa delivering for our community than the Liberal Government,” Mr Chanthivong said.
“Our community was unfairly targeted during lockdown and bore the brunt of the Liberal Government’s harsh and unfair restrictions. It’s time for our community’s fair share.”
Top of this year’s wish-list is a lift for Macquarie Fields Station, which has consistently featured on the list since 2015.
“The Liberal Government has consistently ignored our needs and politicised station upgrades,” Mr Chanthivong said.
Hawkesbury River Station, in a Liberal-held electorate, has two new lifts. There are less than 1,000 weekly Opal trips at Hawkesbury River Station. Yet there are approximately 10,000 and potentially more weekly Opal trips at Macquarie Fields Station.
“The Liberal Government’s shameless political bias of station upgrades is deceitful, grossly unfair and totally incomprehensible,” Mr Chanthivong said.
This year’s Christmas wish-list is reflective of the pandemic’s impact on jobs and small business.
“Post-pandemic we need more secure local jobs, greater financial support for small business, investment in TAFE and training opportunities, and a boost to local manufacturing,” Mr Chanthivong said.
Other top priorities on this year’s wish-list include:
- Scrap the M5 East Toll
- No tax on the family home
- Stop overdevelopment and protect green space
- Save the Hurlstone Farm
- More footpaths and recreational areas
- Upgrade and air-condition our schools.
“My Christmas Wish-List is a plea for action, not more empty promises or spin from this Liberal Government. All we want is our community’s fair share.”
